Grade 3 students welcome to my educational site. Here you will see many motivational activities that you and your parents can share together. This is a place where math and science take you to a whole new level of learning. I am going to provide you and your parents with an academic curriculum site that will be interactive, informative, and mind testing.
Plants and its Connection with Earth and Space Systems
Soil is the essential source of life for many organisms and humans. Throughout this unit the grade 3 students will learn how important soil is for living things how its importance in sustaining life. The connection with soil and life systems closely relates to those seen in growth and change in plants.
Class Activity:
The grade 3 class will use their creative imaginations to problem solve for NASA.
NASA has asked the students for their assistance in building green houses in space for astronauts on missions. These astronauts will be using these grown plants as a form of food source for the next month.
The students must figure out oxygen content needed for the soil and growth of the seeds as well as source to contain all of these plants.

Life System of a Seed
After visiting Pioneer Village, we will be starting our next lesson in understanding the life system of a seed. This includes identifying the major parts of a plant including the root, stem, flower, leaf, seed, and fruit.
Below is a link for further information on what is going to be learned in class
Interactive quiz:
Quiz 1
Quiz 2
Inclass Activity:
As an interactive activity students will be planting a sunflower seed in a glass jar and will be recording its growth cycle for a period of 2 weeks. The data collect will be displayed collaboratively as class in a chart format showing similarities and difference in each child`s plants growth.
Here is a link to the transformation from seed to mature plant.
With the completion of this activity, students have aquired scientific and experimentation skills to make the appropriate predictions and investigations.

Field Trip: Understanding the growth and changes in plants
Black Creek Pioneer Village is more than a collection of buildings and artifacts. Here, you will become immersed in the lifestyles, customs, and surroundings of early residents who built the foundations for modern Toronto and Ontario at the typical crossroads community village found in the Toronto area during the 1800's.
Grade 3's as we visit Pioneer Village we will be looking at the different types of plants and species that the early settlers used in their habitat. Here we will be going on various excursions that will be guided by the early settlers themselves, taking us through their day to day lifestyle including nature walks.
Note to Parents:
Please be sure to have your child dressed appropriately for weather conditions.
i.e. Sunscreen and hat for warm sunny days
Please reference Black Creek Pioneer Village for further information
Number Sense and Numberation
Note to Parents:
In approximately two weeks time, we will be looking at the representation and ordering of numbers from 1 to 100, and we will also be looking a different money values starting from pennies to tonnie's to the value of $10.00. We will also be counting in 1's, 2's, 5's, 10's and 25's including adding and subtracting various values.
Parents here you will find and interactive testing that you can practice with your children to prepare them for the next unit test in two weeks!

Patterning and Algebra
Patterning: a design or decoration formed by the creative arrangement or formation of patterns.
Algebra: the branch of mathematics that deals with general statements of relations, utilizing letters and other symbols to represent specific sets of numbers, values, vectors, etc., in the description of such relations.
This month we are going to be focusing on:
- Geometic patterns
- Determinging missing numbers in equations (addition and subtraction with one and two digit numbers)
- Extending, growing, and shrinking patterning
Grade 3's can you find the extending and growing patterns in the diagram below?
For more worksheets like this please click here
Grade 3's that last week we did a lesson on geometic patterns with a number squence, number line, and bar graph, please be sure to vist the link below and practice before our test next week!
